Avalanche LakeHere is Avalanche Lake. This place is so magical. I could spend weeks here, and have something new to do all day everyday.

"Campsite" #1Here is our "campsite". It rained the second night...a night at 35degrees. I need to get a better sleeping bag and a ....BIVY. I knew what I was getting myself into.

WindowI love this shot. On the way back down the steep descent of Mt. Colden we found a cave with this opening. Out that window is a steep slab that drops down. But this view of the high peaks and Keene Valley are awesome. I wish I had brought 200 speed film it seems alittle grainy and maybe I should have zoomed in more the make the frame not as strong. Maybe I'll go back some day get it right and be worthy of a high-res. pic.

Monkey PlaySo many boulders on the side of Mt. Colden. It was like a play ground. An excuse to be a kid for a moment. This is the slab just outside that cave window. I didn't monkey around too much on this. The camera may not catch the angle but the slab drops down about 20/25ft. then beyond that if you don't jump at the last second to the other boulder you fall into a 7 foot gap between another big boulder which takes you down about another 20 to 30ft.

Wind ShelterWe found this underground crevasse or cave, warm and a nice break from the wind. All 4 of us could fit down in there. Really cool. Photo by John (backspace)

Cave like shelterIt was so weird to crawl out of this warm placid crevasse only to be reminded your 4714ft. up surrounded by mountain ranges and gusting winds. I could only see my camera from my headlamp and not the flash. Didn't want to drop one of my favorite toys.

Ralph the ChipmunkFor his boldness I rewarded him with some of my trail mix. And he bit my finger which I guess resembles a peanut...?

Mt. Colden Via the Trap DykeThis is me heading up the trap dyke which is so exciting. A relaxing scenic climb that I wish lasted all the way to the summit. But I must say the huge slab was really cool as well.

Belay Station #2George Orwell was off by 20 years. The Thought Police sensed that Greg was having fun..........they beat him to the ground. Although we could not manage to capture them on film.

King Wall in the morningI know, I know...I lost my circular polarizer. This pic does not do any justice and even if I took it right it wouldn't have. But you get the idea. This morning was one of the best parts of the camping trip.
