Description:

An excellent route with a burly approach, Chuckawalla sits far back in the recesses of Mud Springs Canyon. All bolts replaced by the ASCA with the help of George Urioste himself! This route is somewhat runout and leaders should be solid at the grade. Supertopo guide has details including the crux of climbing Chuckwalla - namely getting there!

3 out of 5 stars Chuckawalla 21

Chuckawalla 21 is one of the more remote climbs you can get on in RR. We had the whole of Mud Springs Canyon, Global Peak and thus the NE Face to ourselves. Not another soul seen the entire day. My kind of outing. The climbing is quite easy and unremarkable with a lot of bolt clipping. But the canyon descent (not recommended ascent) makes it all worth while. Some bad approach descriptions out there, probably worth visiting my version at summitpost.org. With Joe A, 8 hrs car to car, this is not a grade IV, more like easy III.
