Amazing!
Best climb of the week. Shared the route with three of the coolest guys who made me laugh every time I got scared. :^)
The chockstone tunnel was tight with a small backpack.
Watch for rope drag.

Great route
Only three 5.8 sections, as I see it: The move off the pedestal on p1, the tricky traverse on p.4, and one slab move on p.5.
Good route; the last pitch kind of sucks.

Great
The last couple of routes I have done in Black Velvet continue to surprise in terms of quality. This is no exception. Bring a #4 to clear the big flake on pitch 2 if 5.8 is your limit otherwise a #1 can be found reasonably close by. The predicted Vegas temps were upper 90's and this route was perfect as most of the route was shaded by the right facing corner. Expect the last pitch to be a little more spicy/difficult than the guidebook describes.

nice in august if you can take some heat
Out w/Josh. P's 1 & 2 in sun but not uncomfortable w/an early start. rest of the route in shade. we were the only people in Black Velvet Canyon all day. I led even numbered pitches.

best climb of the weekend for me
Led even pitches. There no bolt at the supposed crux on the arrete of P4 (the Handren books says there is). There is a bolt before the tricky traverse, however, but that wasn't that difficult. The crux move on the arrete can also be avoided by staying left on the arrete.
This is an excellent climb to do before Epinephrine due to Epi descent trail dropping down to the Frogland descent. It gives an excellent perspective.
