Ascent Notes for: Raging Raptor - 5.12a Average Rating : 4.17/5

Ideal route for breaking into the grade. Pretty easy climbing to the first crux, which you want to hit pretty straight on (don't go out left, tag the crimp right by the bolt with your left hand and work up the ramp while moving up and right). Easy climbing up to a mantle that, if you can get your knee up to your face and plant a left foot, isn't hard. Roof move is much easier than it looks as there's a series of jugs above the roof. Make the roof clip, then go straight up with left hand first, then right, then left in a straight line. Then right up and right to the fat obvious flake.

Favorite climb at the quarry so far.

This is what a .12 should be. Found an easier way to do the mid-section crux. Hint: don't move too far left. One of the best at Quarry.

Super fun crimpy start, technical crux, cool mantle, final pumpy push over the roof. Awesome. 3rd go.

Hang out on the rest ledge below the roof.... you'll be happy you did.

Finally bagged the redpoint on this very fine 12a. I've been getting the route clean up to the roof for some time now. Basically, I just finally got the roof first try. The new Quarry project shall be, I think, Forbidden Fruit.

Nearly had the redpoint a couple of times now, but keep blowing it on the roof at the end. The crimpy section in the middle is turning out to not be the crux for me - its that damn roof. I'll send it first try one of these days. And, the really silly part is that one gets an indefinite no-hands rest on the sloping ledge just before the roof.

This is a fantastic route, one of my favorites at the quarry. It took a few times for me to get it clean, but it went today. I think the roof is the redpoint crux. Fairly technical sequences throughout with great movement. Just beautiful!
