3 out of 5 stars second pitch is exciting

after the crux, the second pitch runs out. Williams calls it 5.4 R, which is about right. It is possible to put a small tcu into a shallow parallel up there, but this is a spicy 5.6

2 out of 5 stars 3rd pitch has you thinking

It takes care to protect the first pitch so there is no danger of ground fall; medium cams in the parallel before the traverse as I recall. We did the 3rd pitch too; it is hard for 5.6, and the scary and loose looking blocks did not move on us, but that's no guarantee for the next party.

4 out of 5 stars be sure to do second pitch

the second 5.6+ pitch has a great rail out of spectacularly overhanging portion of the cliff. Don't miss it.

5 out of 5 stars Enjoyed doing the whole route to the top

Though the 4th class section above the usual rappell point is a bit ratty, the last chimmey pitch is a thriller. We had only one rope, so walked down; though two ropes and a down climb back down the 4th class to the rappell point is likely quicker. Walking off means scrambling carefully to the next summit past Mescalito, capped with bushes, leaning to the left side as you scramble, and FOLLOWING THE CAIRNS. These cairns lead over the ridge like back of that summit and down angling to the left across low angle slabs to a cairn marked shelf which then leads down into the middle portions of Pine Creek canyon. A quasi alpine adventure; make sure the party has long sleeves and long pants on....
