dwindling fixed gear

took a friend up this for his first multi-pitch aid climb last weekend. Good fun as always, much less fixed gear than other times I've been up. Looks like somebody zippered a few heads low on pitch 2, big ugly pods with granite dust in the back. Got a bomber beak in rather than replace a head. Lots of the fixed heads are cracking, you should expect to need to replace one or more.

Bolts low down are getting rustier, maybe it's time I got around to replacing a few...

Biggest piece this time was a red camalot, never felt the need for anything bigger.

good views of El Cap, bring a camera

fun route, did the "50 crowded" variation, which everyine says is more fun. Was supposed to be a rest day, so we didn't start climbing til 2. Descent seemed casual, but I'd just done the East Ledges (with haulbags) and the North Dome Gully.

approach crux!

fun route, wish there was more climbing after that approach...

Didn't descend enough after protecting the roof on P1, makes it quite a bit harder. Barely 5.7 anywhere else, mostly 5.2 or easier.

smells like bivi...

Great route, next time I'll take a ledge rather than race for the smelly natural ledges.

Texas flake wasn't as scary as I'd expected, need to get practiced up on wide cracks before trying it in a day...
