Dude...belayer should have taken. He/she can always jump a bit just as your fall ends, thus giving you a shorter fall and softer catch. you gave planty of warning that you were coming off, that is the signal for your bealyer to either start taking, or to get ready to run backwards or downhill to avoid the long fall which put your head and legs at risk on that ledge. Your belayer should always be calculating the risk/fall factors and adjust slack and rope tension accordingly. I would much rather have a shorter/harder fall on a situation like that than a longer softer fall that might involve the ledge below! Glad to hear that you are OK...my heart is still pounding....
