The Ortovox Patroller avalanche transceiver combines digital and analog technology to provide both a long search range and great ease of use. Triple antenna design allows excellent precision and pinpoint search capabilities. Analog audio signals can be received up to 70m from the buried victim, helping the searcher to quickly pick up a signal and get moving in the right direction. At a distance of 40m from the victim, the transceiver switches to digital mode and provides a distance readout in meters and illuminated directional arrows to speed the search. Locking slider prevents accidental switch to receive mode, yet allows the user to quickly switch between transmit and receive when needed. Earphone jack lets you use earphones not included to hear the audio signals, which can be necessary on especially windy days or when there are multiple searchers close by. Harness system ensures that when the device is properly worn it is always on. Operates on 2 AA batteries, included manufacturer recommends the use of alkaline batteries.
