Has a great source of light, but the battery life sucks.

Pretty good little lamp. There are newer ones out there that will outperform this one. I still use mine while camping and it gets the job done. Fits well and I like the on/off/select switch and it has been durable. If you can find one get it.

I had just pulled myself over the lip of High-E in the Trapps as the sun finally slipped beneath the horizon. Now we were faced with 2 raps to the bottom in the post-dusk gloom of October in New York. This light was the best thing I could have with me.

The dual beam was perfect: the high setting when actually rapping down, the low-beam LEDs for setting up the new rap and gathering the gear.

I do suggest putting the alkaline batteries that come with the Gemini and putting in Lithium batteries; they are much lighter, last 2-3 times longer than alkaline, and are unaffected by cold.

The only downside to this light is getting it adjusted properly. It is a little difficult, and sometimes it takes a few tries to get it just right when switching wearing it between my helmet and my melon.

Overall, a must-have I feel.

The line BD use for the Gemini is "this is the optimal climber's headlamp. I don't see the optimal part. Yes, it is a good headlamp. It provides reasonably lighting in halogen mode, but I find it a bit dissapointing in LED mode compared to its competitors. The Gemini has been on the market for a good couple of years and it has stayed there because it was a very good headlamp, but I think its past its prime. There a great many newer and better options out there. But, if you find it on sale for really cheap, go for it. It has good battery life, is robust & waterproof so it won't die on you and hey, how many people out there reccomend it? They can't all be wrong.

I love this headlamp! I can finally climb at night, which is when I am usually wanting to do stuff. With the LEDs on I can see to set up anchors for toproping, and rappels. I also use the LEDs for toprope climbing, but I kick on the incandescent for lighting up the climber while I belay.
