My first pair...
Review by: gengerald, 2010-04-11
Got these on sale at REI as my first climbing shoe for primarily bouldering and they are great. I continue to use them despite upgrade to the 5.10 Galileo. They are great for beginners, but not too aggressive. They were a bit large, even for my wide foot so I down-sized. I have been using them 1-3 times a week at the local gym with great results, they will continue to be in my climbing bag for a backup.
Decent shoe, but not if your feet sweat

As others have noted, this shoe stretches a bit. If you and your feet sweat more than the average person, this shoe will stretch ALOT. The perforations on the sides can very easily turn into holes if the shoe is wet. If you sweat a normal amount, this probably won't be a problem as long as you allow the shoe to air out after using.
Otherwise, a good pair of shoes. The toe on each foot finally started getting holes a month or two ago, after a year and a half or so. If I hadn't had the major holes developing in the synthetic, I would have had these re-soled.

When they work, they work well.

Side walls came unglued on me in a month.
BUT 5.10 gave fantastic customer service and got me a new pair complementary for the inconveinience. The shoe is amazingly light, but stretchy, so after the first pitch, they're nearly a full size larger. I will continue to buy 5.10 even if I did get a bunk pair. Customer service was A+

Great Shoe

I don't see anything dealing with failure of the shoe in terms of lace holes or side walls, perhaps I was just lucky and got a really nice pair. Anyway:
The shoe stretches a lot. I bought a shoe size of 8 and I normally wear a climbing shoe size of 9. The shoe itself fits like a glove. Rubber works great, though not a good shoe to be toe jamming in. Real soft shoe, but surprisingly durable (in my case). I've used these shoes for a year, between abusing them in the gym and a few climbs outdoors. Heel sticks like glue.
Perhaps my only complaint with these shoes are that the laces are a little too long. But other than that, I have zero complaints.

faulty sidewalls

I have seen 3 pairs with the sidewalls blown out now, out of the 3 people I know who have them.
