Putting on a Smoothy is like slipping into the sculpted bucket seat of an F1 race car. The micro-perforated synthetic Nubuck upper is reinforced with high-frequency welded TPU, which molds to your foot for an unbelievable fit. The upper is lined with cotton canvas to eliminate stretching and provide a comfortable, non-greasy surface against your skin. The midsole is made from 1.0 mm molded nylon, which is torsionally rigid to provide a great edging platform, yet is supple enough vertically for great smearing. The heel is made from multiple layers of rubber, so there are no open "windows" without rubber coverage that can make the difference between sticking that tenuous heel hook or not. The heel pocket and unique pattern in the medial arch lock your foot securely in place and support it for maximum control and precision.

Got them on super sale at mountain gear (30 bucks). They were so cheap I figured why not have some shoes to climb in while my other pairs were getting resoled. After about 10 climbing outings the front part of the sole started separating from the rand, after 20, the front was fully separated from the rand.

I sent them back to mountain gear for a free replacement (go mountain gear!). 10 climbing outings later the sole was separating from the rand. After about 3 months of gym climbing I broke through the first layer of toe rubber. I'm just going to use these in the gym till they fall apart (which will be quite soon), it's not even worth getting them resoled.

Under the same usage conditions I've had scarpa, boreal, and 5.10 shoes last 8-10 months before even hinting at needing a resole, I would avoid these shoes like the plague (unless they are on super sale and you want shoes you can trash).

The Smoothy is a great climbing shoe, easy to edge in and the toe is great for smearing and small ledges. I don't know about the wear of the rubber, but these shoes are not supposed to stretch. So if you decide to buy them, don't go too far under your street shoe size of you will hate them.

I am not sure what they were going for. I grabbed them while looking for new shoes because the upper was so soft. I figured it would form fit and be very comfortable when it was cranked down. It was comfy alright, but tended to gap, and let your foot move around. I couldn't get it to work, but maybe that's me.

Suck, hold the rand by your front toe over and open flame and save yourself some trouble. 2 pairs in 2 months. Great fitting, awesome climbing, horrible rubber. Be a trend starter and put some cash into putting C4 on in the factory.

Great toe & edging power, solid smearin' and a very comfortable, glove like fit (right out of the box in my case) combined with quality construction make the smoothy a great choice for all around performance.
