Here is some information from their web site... "X Chalk was developed and formulated with the help and guidance from a Chinese Herbalist. X Chalk was originally developed to counteract the effects from the extremely gritty rock that we have in some climbing areas in Arizona. After only a route or two in these areas, using normal chalk, your hands and fingers are hurting - burning - cutting into your ability to concentrate and also your time on the rock. X Chalk's base ingredient is a much higher quality chalk than what is used by other chalk manufactures. X Chalk's finer grain stays on the fingers longer, so you don't have to chalk up as often. But what really separates X Chalk from the other climbing chalks is the other special ingredients that we’ve added. One of the main "secret" ingredients in X Chalk is clove. This botanical has long been used for its medicinal properties. Some in the holistic medicine and aroma therapy fields speak of other attributes of clove, such as its mental calming effect as well as other amazing effects that would help a climber. I won't make claims beyond the "calming and pain reducing" abilities on the skin and the skin’s nerves. But I do find that the smell of cloves helps me focus and relax on a route or when working through a tough bouldering problem. The other ingredients I won't identify (sorry) - but they too are well known and commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine. As we've compounded these herbs and botanicals in X Chalk, they will help heal minor skin abrasions/scratches/cuts and also help protect these from infection. They will help you heal faster and the chance of infection is lowered. (Now of course, any serious cut or gash should be attended to by a doctor or other medical professional asap!) X Chalk is an overall superior product, offered at only a slightly higher cost than regular gym chalk.

Amazing Chalk 5 out of 5 stars

I tried this chalk in a gym recently and loved it. The fine grade stayed on my fingers longer than other chalks, and I found the smell nice as well.

Good Stuff 5 out of 5 stars

Review by: looserock, 2009-01-29

I finally got this stuff and I like it. I needed something to replace the cheap chalk I had, and this stuff is great! My hands seem to sweat more than they use too, and this fine stuff does last longer. I took a queue from some of the other reviewers and stored my chalk bag in a ziploc bag, not that I'm certain the smell would have bothered me because I like clove. I just wanted to contain the micron powder, because cheap chalk had spilled, so I cleaned the bag anyway. Good stuff!

the smell 1 out of 5 stars

Got a sample of the X-Chalk last year at the King Lines film tour. At first I thought this stuff was great. It smelled pretty good and it did make your hands feel nice when you used it. But on a trip to Smith with some friends the smell just got to all of us. Now all I associate that smell with is being sketched out on the long Smith runouts. That and the fact that the stuff got on everything and took forever to go away. Plus looking at it from a health perspective the stuff is a very fine particulate and the scent just shows you how much of it you are inhaling. Plus at work we used to use clove oil to anesthetize fish for tagging and measuring. I noticed that my nose and hands would tingle after using that stuff. Not really what I'm looking for. Really curious to see what the MSDS is on that stuff. I'll stick to superchalk...if it dries you hands out too much cut in some regular stuff. Really just can't take the smell. I'd go for 0 stars if they let me

Climbaromatherapy 4 out of 5 stars

I got a couple of bags of this at the Red Rock Rendezvous this year from the Windstopper tent as promo giveaway schwag. Didn't think it would be any different. I'm not sure if it actually heals my hands, but I really like the scent. It does have a calming effect! People are always asking what it is..
