perionychium 2007-01-03	Is there any documented cases that climbing is bad for a fetus? I mean, exercise is encouraged for pregnant mothers and besides, if you were to take a fall climbing, most people are likely to stop their fall with their hands or feet not on their stomachs (depending on how bad their fall is/what type of climbing they are doing). Keep it up, you rock.

aimeerose 2007-01-03	For the intelligent comments: it's just a full body harness, made by Petzel, mostly for industrial uses (maybe caving? I dunno), and there's not a whole lot known about climbing when pregnant, but I've known quite a woman who have climbed up to their due dates.

Go girl go!

tradrenn 2007-01-04	I can't bilieve that you are leading. I have seen a girl top roping before while being pragnent. That was about two years ago. She has a boy. I remember making joke that he is climbing before being born. I'm 50/50 on this. All the best to you and your child.
deadhorse 2007-01-04	the part that makes me sad is that i probably would struggle on that climb, and I am neither pregnant nor woman. So for that- props I suppose. Soo this is really gross but just go with me here for asecond- let's say a full term preggo is climbing, takes a whip, and it induces labor, child comes out. does the umbilical cord catch the baby? is it dynamic? sorry- but I'm a wonderer
kkorza 2007-01-05	I think its great she's climbing pregnant but I have to say the leading part while pregnant wouldn't be something I would ever do to my baby. Theres alot of risk in it, but thats her choice and her body. I climbed until I was 8-1/2 months pregnant. From the start of my pregnancy I stopped leading but top roped 5.12's, then as I got bigger I dropped it down to 5.9 & 5.10 to protect my ligements. Its great to continue sports you've been doing all along while your pregnant.

While I think it is up to whoever is pregnant to do whatever they want while in such a state, one could argue that she is not replacing these every day activities that you say are just as dangerous if not more dangerous.. but she is merely adding another dangerous variable to the equation. Either way, good luck with the baby and with future climbing!

milominderbinder 2007-01-21	That 'walkie talkie thing,' upon closer inspection, is just a really coincidental arrangement of branches and pine needles (or rather, a gap in them made sharper by dead branches lining the edges of the gap)...Zoom in if you're skeptical. As for the leading pregnant...I think I'll just stay out of that mess. Cool looking route though.
doubledare 2007-01-22	if you should climb while pregnant, it also stands to reason that you shouldn't climb after giving birth for fear of leaving your child motherless. You should alos not clib before you are pregnant for fear of denying you not-yet-born children the right to life. In keeping with this "logic" no feamles should climb....ever. Get real people. Climbing has different levels of risk. If you are well within your ability at a local crag no problem...if you are doing a 5.11 free solo that's a different story. My guess is she's lead this climb before and it's well within her ability. it's no different than some other mothers going on a hike in the woods to stretch their legs.

addiroids 2007-08-05	Great job. I hope motherhood is treating you and the family well. And for everybody who says she's leading, I certainly don't see any gear or gear loops for that matter. Maybe she has it all on a shoulder sling on her left side. I wonder if climbing an offwidth would help lymphedema patients :)
climbergirl316 2007-11-05	I don't think I'll have the balz to lead...but a bun in the oven insn't going to keep me from climbing. God wouldn't have given me rock if he didn't want me to climb it!
