To be more precise, the headline should read sth like
"on competition level, indoor climbing is ten times safer than soccer", as the study was carried out at championship competitions.

Not doubting that on a recreational level this is any different, it's just not what the study is saying.

Yeah, I know, I'm nitpicking... sorry for that ;)

I wonder if this was top roping, leading, or bouldering. I would venture to say that indoor bouldering probably has a higher injury rate than leading indoors.

yup, probably true!

My little sister just broke her toe playing soccer, and I've yet to break anything climbing (and I've been known to do some pretty stupid things)

Ha! Ha! Ha!

What a load of rubbish.

Indoor climbing is to climbing as a whole what keep-it-up is to soccer.

So let's clear this up: the safest part of climbing is less dangerous than all of the most dangerous parts of soccer combined?

Well whoda thunk it.

What is more helpfull is to analyse the sport in a more thorough manner.
How many people die/hurt if they are toproping with at least two ancors?
How many people die/hurt outdoor sport climbing a 5.10,5.11,...?
How many people die trad climbing a 5.10, 5.11ect?

This is the kind of study where the results can not really be applied outside of specific conditions. They looked at pro climbers and pro soccer players and worked out the pro soccer players hurt themselves more. It may open the eyes of non climbers to the fact that climbing is not as extereme as they might have thought, thats all.
