About Magaliesberg Gorges:

Geologically the gorges in the Magaliesberg were formed due the volcanic erruptions of what geologists call "The Bushveld Igneous Complex". Due to its heat and weight the Sandtones of the magaliesberg were metamorphosed to Quartzite and cracked to produce this climbing mecca. There are absolutely no facilities, only running water down in the gorges all year round. Fires are not allowed in any camping site. For acces contact the MCSA or visit their website at www.mcsa.org.za. Help protect our mountains please and I hope to see you there.
Nearest town or city: Rustenburg
Directions: To get there, drive to the Hatebeespoort dam and continue on in the direction of Mooinooi/Rustenburg. The gorges are located to your left/south. Specific directions are included in the RD page for each gorge which can be found at www.mcsa.org.za. Save parking is available at your own desired rate (their is a general understanding between the climbers and farmers on whose land we park that R10/week-end is sufficient). The longest walk from car park to gorge is only one hour, so the entire area is great for week-ends!!
