About Gate Rock:

Razor-laden metamorphic block with crumbling features: "choss" to quote a local. Bolts in places, but still a few in-situ pitons. Generally challengeing but with very low quality rock. The start of routes are often a grade or two higher than the main route. Lots of friction and wear so top ropes are not recommended, unless you like your sheaths fuzzy.
Approach: From the shrine, follow the road up the hill and turn left into the pines before the concrete embankment on the right. Follow the ridge of the hill for 20 mins (light bushwacking) and keep to the left. Gate rock is in the middle of the trees and looks more like a large boulder with obvious old chains on one side.
