About Skyang Kangri (Staircase Peak):

7,544 meters (Southwest Peak-7,500 meters)
An ascent to the Skyang La on the South Ridge was made by a rather famous group in 1902. The expedition consisted of Oscar Eckenstein (inventor of the basic modern crampons; and Aleister Crowley, among others) First attempted by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1909, as a possible long traverse route to K2. A large crevasse, spanning the entire length of the Skyang La, blocked his progress, and they gave up. Finally ascended by a Japanese expedition in 1976 via the East Ridge, which rises like a five stepped staircase to the summit. The large crevasse was still there, but was spanned by a snow bridge. This allowed them to continue, and they reached the summit on 11 August 1976.
