About Victoria:

Victoria is blessed with world class sandstone crags with Arapiles and the Grampians being the most famous. Extensive granite climbing is alo available throughout the state from small tors to 350m high cliffs at Mt Buffalo. For the first time visitor head straight to the 'Camp 4' of Australia, the so called 'Pines' campground at the world famous trad cliff of Arapiles. This area always has people camping and in the high season can have hundreds of eager climbers - and no tourists. This is the place to meet partners and organzie trips further abroad. Victoria does not have extensive areas of sport climbing, but there are fantastic crags that are all bolted including the Gallery, Spurt Wall and VD Land which are all in the Grampians. Routes up to grade 33 (5.14c) have been established. Bolts are common on many Victorian climbs but a handy rack of gear will be needed to complete most climbs. For boulderers there is the world famous caves of the Hollow Mountain region of the Grampians where hundreds of problems have been done up to V14. Arapiles has many quality boulders in a desert setting. For the big wall climber, Mt Buffalo has several multi-day routes of 10 pitches or more at grades up to A4. A little ice climbing has been done in the high alps in winter (June - September). Mt Bogong and Mt Bulla are the most popular.
