About Crystal Clearlight:

One hour drive from Chch, overlooking Charteris Bay on the East side of Lyttleton Harbour, Crystal Clearlight offers trad climbing up to the low 20's. "***Black Bitch" 16 is a classic. At Charteris Bay on the east side of Lyttleton Harbour, turn right into the steepening Bayview Rd, before making another right into Doris Faigan Lane. Drive to the end of the tar seal then continue up the short metalled road to it's end. From here, walk up the farm track, past the white tower until you see two green plastic water tanks (by a single row of pines). Continue straight on through the gate to the left of the tanks. The vehicle track peters out but continue over the paddock towards the right ,where you find another gate (opposite the large solitary pine). By now you should be able to see the left end of Crystal Clearlight in Profile The easyest way to access CC is to rap from the top. Take an extra rope to use as a dedicated rap line. Walk-off decent to the right side of the crag is also possible. At it's heightest point, the crag is about 18m. Permission must be obtained from the land owner. (usually no problem) Contact details can be obtained from South Island Rock.
