About Bowfell Buttress(OS):

The classic crag of the area. Northeast facing with about 20 routes around Diff to Severe, with the odd Extreme, 200 to 350 feet tall. All routes well worth doing. A very impressive high mountain crag which needs a stretch of good weather, a must in anyone's climbing resume.

| Directions: | OS 89 & 90 -- GR NY 245 069 Alt. 849m 6 miles west of Elterwater. Take the B5343 to the west end of Langdale Valley to the car park. From here the valley runs west and splits after half a mile, head straight up the ridge in front of you. Pass the first summit after a mile and continue on another mile, then bear off right below the top on a path that leads beneath some crags. Cross the scree chute to the bottom of the formidable looking Bowfell Buttress. |
