About Apremont Gorges:
This area is also KNOWN AS APREMONT OUEST...
A real mess to find the circuits and problems in this huge chaos - but still a wonderful area to go to. This part of the forest, with 14 circuits in every range of difficulty, dries quickly despite the trees.
From Barbizon, drive eastwards into the forest until you arrive quickly at the CARREFOUR DU BAS BREAU, where you could have to park in winter time when the routes in the forest are too fragile to drive on.
There are two other parking areas. The FIRST ONE is 5 minutes WALKING on the Route des Gorges d'Apremont, which goes south then turns left (southeast) (Apremont Bizons is just rigth of this road). From this parking, you have an immediate access to the Red circuit n°10, TD+, called "Berger - Naëls", whose start is right of the wandering pathway GR1 (with horizontal red and white stripes). Some nice boulders belonging to this circuit are located just NW of the parking area. This circuit ends further N, on the right side of the GR1.
NB 1 : ACHTUNG! the drawing of this circuit in the Montchaussé's book (Escalade à Fontainebleau, ed. Guides Arthaud) is a real mess...
At this first parking lot is also the beginning of the Orange circuit n°3, AD, called "Mercier", with 46 problems. This circuit starts a little bit on the right when you look at the wooden board at the beginning of the pathway GR1. The beginning of the red circuit n°10 is a bit more on the right compared with the begining of this orange circuit. Look for a highball with a chain on it, the beginnings of these two circuits are not very far...
5 more minutes of walk on this same route is a SECOND PARKING LOT. From this one you have access to the Bue outremer n°5, easy white circuit for children, yellow circuit n°9, salmon circuit n°6, Baltic blue n°13, black and white circuit n°7, red circuit n°12... READ CAREFULLY the instructions in the different guides to find the circuits...
