About Vercors foothills - Combe d'Oyans (Rochefort-Samson):

The gorges just east of the village of Rochefort-Samson offer some single and multipitch routes on a limestone, sometimes chossy. All grades are present, but most routes are above the 6a/5.10a range. Because the routes start in or above the gorges and depending on the orientation, the area is good from early spring to late fall. The approach through the bottom of the canyon is slippery after heavy rains.
Nearest town or city: Valence
Directions: From Valence, drive East to Chabeuil (route D68). Then drive Northeast through Charpey to Rochefort-Samson. In Rochefort-Samson, follow the directions Quarry / Les Ducs / Saint-Genis.
Then 2 possibilities! Either park on the first parking lot right after Les Ducs (WITH the large climbing sign), then follow the path down to the exit of the canyon (the path goes through a pasture with horses and cows), then walk at the bottom of the canyon which is slippery (fixed ropes and chains). The second possibility is to keep on driving to Saint-Genis after the hamlet of Les Ducs(curves and small pass with an electrical pylon) and park on the second parking area between the pass and the next hamlet of Saint-Genis). From this second parking place, walk down 50 meters, cross the stream, walk westward for 10-15 minutes to the obvious blue face with the yellow rock. The given Lat and Long are the ones of the first parking lot.
