About Les Gorges du Verdon:

Les Gorges du Verdon (Verdon canyon) more often called Le Verdon are located in the southern Alps, dominated by the small villages of La Palud (el. 1,200 m) and Aiguines, the closest city being Castellane. In the ned of the canyon goes the river Le Verdon which enlarges in an artificial lake at the end of the canyon, Le Lac de Sainte-Croix, closed by a dam.
Like in every canyon, there's a left bank/rim (Rive Gauche) and a right one (Rive Droite) : La Palud is on the right/north rim, Aiguines on the left/south rim. The weather can be cold in winter because of the elevation (3600 feet), and can be warm in summer, so choose the right orientation. More, from July to September, there can be storms almost every late afternoon so think about it and don't get stuck on the routes... Last but not least, as it is a canyon, you must usually rap down first, then start tour ascent : be prepared! You will NEED TO BUY THE TOPO GUIDE if you want to find the proper rappeling place and the proper route direction, as the multipich routes can cross eachother several times... Don't forget n ascending tool. Don't forget to bring some water and something to eat.

On the Right Bank (North Rim) is the main and famous section of l'Escalès, in which are all the undersections of l'Eycharme, Les Néophytes, Prisunic... L'Escalès is 10 minutes by car east from La Palud-sur-Verdon. It's facing east-southeast, and you can climb there all year long. L'Escalèes provides 400 routes from 50m to 320m, on a cliff whose height ranges from 120m to 300m. On this left bank are also the areas of Imbut and Malines.

On the left/South Rim are the following sport climbing sections, from the west (downstream) to the east (upstream), providing 400 routes :
Les Vernis : facing north and west, climbable year-round, especially good in winter. 100 sport routes, but sometimes exposed, from 5.3 to 5.13a. Undersections : Eponymes, Château des Brumes, Nid d'Aigle, Lucky-Luke, L'Arche, Enduristes.
Le Bauchet : facing north, 60 1-pitch sport routes, from 5.10c to 5.14b. From February to November.
Sallières : facing north, 25 sport routes, from 5.9 to 5.12c.
Les Petites Pointes : facing north, 2 routes.
Les Cavaliers : facing north, 70 sport routes, sometimes multipitch, from 5.3 to 5.13b. Good from March to October (shadow almost all day).

Vallon d'Estay : on the left rim, but not in the canyon. South of Aiguines. Facing south, under 5.11a.

DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING IN YOUR CAR. Park your car on the main parkinglots (free) : Carelle, Malines, Point Sublime, Tunnels des Crêtes. If you have to climb remote routes, park on main places and walk a few hundred yards…
