About Craig Cwm Du(OS):

This is the place to go if you are a DIFF to SEVERE climber and want to get away from the crowds during high season. It is not the best of cliffs in Snowdonia, but the rock is worth climbing and has mixed routes up to 500 feet long. About 20 or so distinct lines, with various eliminates for those who want a stiffer challenge. If you are really enthusiastic, continue on up to the summit of Mynydd Mawr, then walk south for 600 yards to the top of Craig Y Bera, then drop down to the left and climb back up the 500 foot buttress (several routes, DIFF to SEVERE), and back to the summit of Mynydd Mawr for the second time!
Nearest town or city: Caernarfon
Directions: OS115--GR537/551 Six miles southeast of Caernarfon on the north slopes of Mynydd Mawr. By going southeast on the A4085, at Betws Garmon the cliffs will be visible in front of you to the right, high up in a cwm. A footpath crosses the river, and then heads up and around the forest to the cwm.
