Description:

NEW FINISH. This is the bleak and barren face just left of Silk Road. Climb Silk Road to the base of the pedestal [2nd bolt], and then step left around the corner onto the vertical desert. This route used to end at the chains on Silk Road, but has now been extended to the rim by the addition of two more bolts, which protect an interesting finish through the black overhanging lip. Large holds, succculent dates and beautiful belly-dancers are, as always, only mirages. Speed or a 10-day camel are the traveller's best friends here. You can still finish at the chains on Silk Road, but why would you??????

Descent Options:

Rap from the chains at the rim, or walk off right.

4 out of 5 stars Didn't find the desert either

Top-roped from Silk Road anchor. Really nice climb. Either my climbing has improved dramatically (not) or it's a bit soft on the grade. Felt like a 9.

3 out of 5 stars I somehow avoided the desert

Felt like there was more hand and foot options than in the description. Fun alternate line up to silk roads anchor.

4 out of 5 stars More fun

This is a fun route with a lot of subtle holds and delicate footwork. Making your way around the bulge above the 2nd bolt on Silk Road can seem like a faith-based process. Above this side pulls and good footwork see you to the chains. Grade 5.10b or so depending on the line you pick up the slab.
