Description:
This stunning line is visible from the highway when traveling to Tofino. A Vancouver Island classic in a glorious setting up the Northernmost peak in the beautiful MacKenzie Range. It is not climbed as much as its quality suggests it should be, and this could simply be because the approach through the primordial rainforest is an arduous undertaking itself... From the climbers trail make your way to the toe of the NW Ridge. Hike and scramble until you reach 5th class terrain. Rope up! The climb moves through varying terrain, with moderate exposure in places, and a few vertical bush bashes (Nothing more than a typical island B2). The final dihedral to the summit traverse is fabulous. If you encounter terrain harder than 5.6, you are most definitely off route. The summit offers some of the best views on the island.Descent Options:
Head south from main summit to rap to the col in 3 pitches with a 60m rope. Watch for loose rock.

We climbed the NW Ridge in an alpine style daytrip from Victoria. It took us 23 hours including the driving and a nice linger at the top for some summit photos.
The route was nice and well protected with the odd runout here and there on quality rock. Third pitch had some lovely exposure!
The snow started as we emerged from the trees and it made the approach/descent much nicer/faster.
