The Gallery - Face Climb Area
About The Gallery - Face Climb Area:
Currently CLOSED by the National Capital Commission. (As of 2010.) The Gallery is set high on the escarpment between Home Cliff and Farm Rock, looking down over Farm Rock and the Ottawa river valley. It has some gorgeous views and easy to moderate mostly slab climbing on good granite. Face Climb Area is the right hand area of the two parts of the gallery. While most of the routes are trad, the top of the cliff is easily accessible and several of the routes cna be done on top-rope. |
Approach: | Park at the same place as Home Cliff. (Creigheur Road, just before the rocky knoll, there's a small pull off.) Walk accross the field, staying by the edge. At the far edge of the field, turn right and go about 100m (110 yards) looking for a stand of Sycamore. Through the Sycamores there will be an obvious trail (fairly wide, though the entrance is a bit obscure) that proceeds up the hill. Climb about half way up the escarpment, past the marked branch for Farm Rock, to where the trail makes a sharp (90 degree) bend to the left. Turn off the main trail here, heading nearly straight up (looks a bit like a water course, but there should be a cairn within about 50m after branching) rather than taking the left turn. Follow this trail to the cliff, arriving just below Right Arete. |
