Elliot Lake is right between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie. From highway 17 (the Trans Can), take the turn-off onto highway 108. It will take about 15min. to get to Elliot. Stay on the 108, Horne Lake is just after Tim Horton's and McDonald's on the right. You'll see and mining monument right in front of the lake on your right (the rocks can be seen clearly from the highway on the north-east side of the lake), you can park there. You can also park at Centenial Arena just across the street from the lake, or at the camp site a little further ahead (Simpson Road). Just follow the dirt ATV trail to the bushes on the left side of the lake, their you'll find a nice hiking trail that follows along the entire lake. After you get over the bridge the trail branches off into different sections, continue following the one closest to the lake. You'll eventually come to a dirt mound/dam that crosses through a marsh, you'll go over that then up a steep but short hill leading right to the top of the rocks. To get to the North Face section, just search around on top 'til you find some bolts along the edge of the rock. For most of the other climbs there is a rather convenient natural staircase along the rock face which will bring you right down to the main climbing area. And don't forget your swimming trunks, there's plenty of spots to jump into the lake to cool off. There are plenty of trees to ancore at whatever section you want. |
