About Cherokee Rock Bluffs:

Cherokee Bluffs is probably the only sport climbing crag in central Alabama. There are mostly top rope and sport routes, along the 200 yards of cliff line. All of the sport routes are new, they have been bolted in the last few years. Several of the routes here are undeveloped and needs some work to become a spot worth visiting on a regular basis. There is a trail that runs along the cliff that is unfinished, but still allows for desent belaying. There are many different routes that have been cleaned and climbed. Most of these are bolted and two of them have an anchor chain at the top. Feel free to clean up a new route if you find one. There is alot of potential out there that only needs a little love and affection. Please dont remove any plant life that is not neccesary. Access to the rock is easy, it is a 20 yard hike from the car, and is fairly clean of under brush. There used to be no hunting signs up on trees a few years ago. I have talked to the locals and they say that the power company owns the property. SO TREAD LIGHTLY. If someone asks you to leave just be cool and do it. It hasnt happened yet, but try to keep from conflict, and please clean up after yourself. Whatever you take in, be sure to take back out.
Nearest town or city: Auburn
Directions: FROM AUBURN: Its about a 30 min. drive from AU. Drive north on Donohue until it deadends into county road 72. Take a left on 72 and follow it until it merges with county road 73, follow it for about a quarter of a mile and take your first right which puts you back on 72. The turn is next to two large dumpsters. Follow 72 until it intersects hwy 50. Take a left on 50 and follow it until it comes to a large bridge that goes over the Tallapoosa river, right next to Lake Martin dam. After the bridge head up the hill and take your first left. This road winds down the hill to a right hand switch back which turns into a dirt road that runs along the river. From here follow the road until you see the cliffs on your right, it is about a quarter mile from the last turn. The dirt road runs along the river with the river on your left. You will have to go around a road closed sign to get back far enough to see the cliffs which are on your right. FROM MONTGOMERY: Take I 85 to Tallassee, cross over the Thurlow Dam and take a right onto 229 and follow it until you come to hwy 50 and take right onto 50 and follow it until you come to the bridge and take the road on your right just before you cross over the river.
