South of Porcupine is a rock buttress that descends almost to the road. To the south of this is a large amphitheater (Panaview Cove), with two routes in it. The left one forms more reliably and is called Phoenix. Approach through brush and cross the power line to a snow gully. After about half an hour you will reach the base of Phoenix, the closest and most obvious ice route on Panorama. The first pitch is steep verglas followed by a long, hollow pillar. Move up through the snow to the second step, about 40 feet high. To descend, traverse left and work your way down ledges and gullies on the big rock buttress.
