About Eagle River Valley ICE:

Eagle River Valley is about 20 miles north of Anchorage. This is a vast valley with tremendous vertical relief in the surrounding peaks, but the ice lower in the valley can form up into some excellent routes. Long approaches are the norm, but most will find the solitude and incredible scenery well worth the slog.
Nearest town or city: Eagle River
Directions: Take the Glenn Highway 10 miles north out of Anchorage to the Hiland Road/Eagle River Loop Road exit just past the weigh station. Follow this approximately 3 miles to Eagle River Road, turn right, and follow this road to its end (Eagle River Nature Center). The trails up the valley begin behind the Nature Center, and eventually lead to Eagl Glacier and Girdwood (Crow Pass). During the winter, if the river has frozen, most people choose to travel on the river itself.
