About Upper Grapefruit Rocks:
| A collection of rock domes on a hillside with excellent views and wildlife all around. Good lines in a wilderness setting, if you can ignore the trucks on the Haul Road. |
| Nearest town or city: | Fairbanks |
| Directions: | Head north on the Steese Highway from Fairbanks, and continue on straight when you get to Fox, where it turns into the Elliot Highway. This is the road to Prudhoe Bay so expect lots of 18-wheelers. At Mile 28 the road crosses part of Wickersham Dome where the pavement ends. 8 more miles brings you to the Globe Creek crossing. The rocks straight in front of you up the hill are Upper Grapefruit, and the rocks left of the road on the hillside are Lower Grapefruit. Pass a road cut on your right and look for a dirt road hooking up and back to the parking area just past the road cut. Please use the two main trails to keep erosion to a minimum. |
