Description:

The hike starts on the Eklutna Lakeside Trail. Follow the trail, then get on the East Fork Eklutna River Trail (one can bike up intil this point). A mile after the East Fork Bridge, the route takes a left up Stiver's Gulley (unmarked-follow a map). The scree field under Stiver's Gulley is the last reliable place to find water, so fill up! Eventually one comes across a small rock glacier-hike across it. Angle to the NE up the most visible gulley until you reach the ridge. Continue East along the ridge Near 7400 feet, there is a narrow, steep gulley which is climbed more safely by roping up. The rock is rather unreceptive to pro but a piton has been placed near the top of the gulley. I've heard its been there since the 50's and is pretty much useless. This gulley has been aptly dubbed "Chicken$hit Gulley" by the mountains early climbers. After ascending the gulley, the summit is rather easy to approach. There is an icefield near the top which is made much safer with the use of crampons. Descend the same way you climbed. Requires two days to summit and return. Good luck.
