About Knik Glacier area:

Lots and lots of ice to be found year round here. There are also some spectacular unclimbed or rarely climbed rock faces and peaks lining this river of ice, but be well practiced in your glacier travel if you plan on walking the glacial surface. The same crevasses that allow you to practice your ice technique in the summer can swallow the unsuspecting climber at any time.
Nearest town or city: Palmer
Directions: From Anchorage, take the Glenn Highway north towards Wasilla/Palmer, and exit on the Old Glenn Highway exit just after the highway heads downhill towards the Palmer Hay Flats and Knik River crossing. Follow the Old Glenn below the face of Pioneer Peak for a few miles until it crosses the Knik River, then bear right before the bridge and follow the Knik River Road (dirt) to its end. The glacier is a short hike from the road, but plan on bringing enough equipment in case the weather gets bad while you are there...the temperature is at least 15 to 20 degrees colder around the glacier.
