Description:
In this section only because the APPROACH begins at the Visitors Center. The route is located ACROSS Portage Lake on the left as seen from the Visitors Center. The ice falls down to the lake in several steep steps. In the summer, it is obvious as a cascade of water dropping into the lake, so it may be necessary to start the route from a canoe if conditions warrant. The route starts with one pitch up a left facing groove to the base of an open book. Follow this 200 foot pitch to the base of a long headwall, and climb the next 200 feet of lower angled ice. The lake was frozen over on the first ascent, and the lkae was ski/walked across. Subsequent attempts have canoed across (questionable legality). Rappell the route to descend.
