About Middle Glacier Canyon:

MILE 4.1---This is the narrow canyon to the right. Please check the avalanche conditions before approaching the canyon, this area commonly has extreme avalanche danger. There are at least a dozen routes here with potential for many more to be climbed, but most climbing is done very early in the season due to the avalanche danger. This makes it one of the best areas for the thin ice connoisseur, though. It is also home to the hardest route in the Anchorage vicinity, the terrifying GINGUS! Approach from the fish viewing platform parking area at mile 4, and head straight across the camping area (closed in winter) to the canyon. Once you reach the trees, go left and follow the nature trail to the bridge. After you cross the bridge, follow the right trail to the mouth of the canyon. Once again, this is a known and guaranteed avalanche gully, snow remnants from slides here stay visible well into the summer.
