About Dick's Bowling Ball:

Just upstream of the slide at Slide Rock SP sits a large, roundish basalt boulder that has been smoothed over by the water to a slick, glassy surface. This rock is slippery! Although there are many overhanging slopey problems that are V-hard, there are areas with enough suprisingly positive holds to link up several routes to play on from 5.10 to V2+. Try them barefoot for an extra slippery time! There are also some good, easy problems in the sandstone bluffs next to DBB around the man-made structure, a few of which are actually quite clean. To get there drive North on Hwy 89A from Sedona to Slide Rock SP. You can park at the park for $8 or park on the road near there and find a spot to drop in to the canyon. The boulder is a couple hundred yards upstream from the bridge. This is a fun place to finish the day after climbing in Sedona. If you go on a hot weekend, be prepared for some non-climbing crowds swimming in the creek.
