About Sierra Ancha:

Excellent spot to explore and take in some adventure climbing. Some development has ocurred, both trad and sport. Long quartzite walls throughout the range provide an isolated experience. Wear your helmet because although the rock is hard it is blocky and fractured in spots. Many opportunities for first ascents abound. Contact me (sed) if you want to check out the icebox, metamorphic wall, a paradise spire.

Directions:	Directions for Icebox, Paradise Spire, and Metamorphic wall are as follows: from Globe take hwy 88 north to 288. remain on 288 and the road will become gravel as it begins up the sierra anchas. It will then turn back to pavement again - look for FR 140 - it's easy to miss. turn left on FR 140 and go 4/10 of a mile to your first right, it's bumpy but any car should be ok. follow that dirt road until it ends on a small grassy hill, park there. Walk in the direction of the canyons to a small wash and hike about 5 min. down the wash to an abrupt slot, that's the icebox. You can rap in from that side using 2 ropes or the other side using a 55m rope doing two raps. to get to the spire and metamorphic wall walk out of the icebox @ 15 minutes, following the canyon as you stay left, going left around the spire will take you to the spire routes and metamorphic wall. Camping is good where you park the car but please keep it clean. Watch for rattlesnakes and loose rock.
