About Black Mountains:
| At the northern tip of the black mountains is a ridge of surprisingly good volcanic rock. At least 30 sport routes were established by local climbers in 1989/1990, though it's been a few years since I was there so more development may have ocurred. The routes are between 40 and 90 feet with the average being around 60 feet. There are some good lines here for the moderate leader, the range being from 5.7 to 5.12 but most 5.9 to 5.11. It has a fairly easy 15 minute approach hike. |
| Nearest town or city: | Golden Valley |
| Directions: | As you are driving on highway 95/68 you will enter the shanty-town of Golden Valley. Kingman is to the east and Laughlin is to the west. Go south on Egar road and follow a few miles. Next go west on Tapeats then north on Guthrie. You will see a pull-out and dirt road/parking. Follow a meandering trail to the walls. The trail enters the crag with the Snake Flake in front of you and Eastern Block to your right. |
