About Verde Canyon (AKA SOB Canyon):
| Basalt gorge on verde river approximately 7 miles from Clarkdale. New Area!! (?) Gorge has rock walls from about 60 to 100 feet of basalt/ volcanic rock. There tons of thin cracks, roofs, hard face climbs--none developed that I know of--YET. Last Sunday there were no people, not even a footprint! Looks like mainly 5.10-5.11+ range. TBD. Please keep it clean and wild!! This is a wilderness area! NFS land |

| Directions: | Take Sycamore Canyon Road about 7 miles and turn left on dirt road. Go about 0.3 miles and just prior to the end of the road go through the cow gate. Close the gate, please! Stop at livestock gate and park. Like towards the cliffs, find trail traversing right and following down hill. Walk south into gorge. Goes a few miles if not longer. |
