Eagle Creek Ice formations
About Eagle Creek Ice formations:
| Several small formations lie in and around the Eagle Lakes Canyon. The most predictable being Sunny Falls located about 1 mile west of Eagle Lake. Usually one can find a formation or two on the south side of the canyon between Eagle Lake and Sunny falls. Mayhem Cove occasionally produces a small curtain of ice called the Devils Coat Tails. Maggies Peak has some of the longest mixed routes in the tahoe area if you can catch them under favorable conditions. Ice sometimes forms on the waterfall below the highway parking area but its rarely found in good condition but worth a look. Several hundred yards (south) of the parking lot and up the hill a about 30 yards is a great vertical ice curtain called the Inertia Tube. Some years it never forms up, people tend to climb on it before it forms up enough and break it sending it to the ground killing its chances for the rest of the season. Please stay off this one until it thickens up. |
