About Temple of Ishtar:
The Temple of Ishtar is the 2nd largest of the formations at Texas Canyon. The western most major formation at Texas Canyon, it is a two minute walk over the ridge and down the hill from the base of the The Chicken (Hyperion Slab) and the south entrance to the canyon. While it appears low angle and slabby from the east, the west and southwest faces offer bolted routes on steep knobby walls. |
Approach: | From the parking area, walk up the dirt road past the white gate for ~ 100yds until the crag comes into view. Take the trail, on the right, that diagonals down to the crag on the right. Skirt the large formation with the caves, to the left (south). Continue west past the opening to the canyon and over the hill to the west. The large slabby formation furthest south is the Temple of Ishtar. |
