About Tahquitz Rock:

Tahquitz is the tall, imposing formation sitting above the town of Idyllwild that offers mostly traditional climbing up to seven pitches in length. Most routes follow crack/flake systems and rely very little upon fixed gear, although exceptions do exist. Established climbs tend to be clean and free of debris although the north side is notorious for loose rock. Despite it's relatively easy access and numerous climbs with low grades this is not an area to be taken lightly as far to many epics have occured here that would have been preventable with the proper training and attitude. Typical descent is off the backside via a tricky series of ledges which then lead to a hiker's trail.
Nearest town or city: Idyllwild
Directions: Exit I-10 in the town of Banning onto Highway 243. Follow this 24 miles (30-45 minutes) to the town of Idyllwild. Turn left onto N. Circle Dr. and follow to a stop sign (The Creek House on RHS at intersection), make a right and then the first left. Follow the signs to Humber Park. Park at or near the sharp left turn pullout area after the Adventure Pass sign. The trailhead is just below the start of the Devil's Slide hiking trail and goes down a short hill to a creek then wraps around a hillside to a level area where a sign-in box will be found. The trail climbs the steep hillside above to the base of Tahquitz; 45 minutes or more is typical of the approach time.
