About Scot Rock:
| This 200' slab, of excellent quality whitish-grey granite, is visible from as far away as Riverside (on a clear day) but not visible from the parking area or along the entire approach. A steep but enjoyable hike rewards you with secluded climbing in an area with mostly moderate climbs. Don't miss Highlander (5.7) a great two-pitch route with excellent stone and Tipton's Arete (5.12a) a varied route which requires a variety of techniques. The best time to climb here is fall through spring with summer generally being far too hot. Recent fires swept through this area, and while making the approach easier have turned this area into a moonscape. |

| Directions: | Park at Crest Park on the rim, which is at the junction of Hwy 18 and Hwy 173. From the southwest corner of the Park follow a trail steeply downhill to a stream. Follow the stream passing some houses on the right until you hit a marked trail which leads to a plateau. Follow a trail across the burnt plateau then down again steeply to the top of the rock. Plan on at least a 30 minute approach. |

| Access Issues: | Trail that begins in Crest Park does not cross a creek and dead ends into a paved road leading to the houses. Could not find any other trail, ended up not finding the climb..... need more specific directions None. The occasional wildfires that sweep through the area might leave debris astrewn and the latter portion of the trail overgrown with prigglies with sharp needles. The provided directions above is accurate, with the aforementioned "stream" being a dry streambed. Once there, simply follow the cairns that marked the windy trail. Pretty views from the manzanita plateau. |
