About The Hideout:
| The Hideout is a tranquil spot with good bouldering, about a mile and a half from downtown Ojai. The rock quality is great, with a couple dozen problems in the main area, V7 and under. The bouldering resides in a beautiful oak woodland environment, keeping the area cool and shaded even during hot weather. A nice hike will get you to the boulders, which are mostly concentrated in one place, making it easy to use a pad. The Ojai Valley Land Conservancy recently acquired the land, ensuring access by establishing the largest preserve in Ojai. |

| Directions: | Follow directions as per Foothill Crag (The Foot) but continue up Foothill trail past The Foot for about five to ten minutes until you reach the boulders, immediately prior to the saddle. The main area will appear on your right and is right off the trail. An alternate approach is possible via the newly opened Fox Canyon Trail . For this approach, park at the top of Signal Street as you would for Shelf Road. Hike up Shelf Road for approximately five minutes until you reach the trailhead and kiosk for the Fox Canyon Trail, on your left. Take the single track Fox Cyn. Trail uphill for approximately one mile, taking a left (onto Foothill trail) at the fork at the top. The boulders will appear on your left just as you start heading downhill. Both approaches are about the same length. Since the parking areas for each are nearby one another, it is convenient to do the approach as a loop. My vote for the best method is to hike up Pratt and down Fox. Fox Canyon Trail offers incredible views of Ojai as you descend. |
