Hang Glider Launch
About Hang Glider Launch:
| This small Cap Rock style area sits high up on the wall between the Beginners Area and Storm Warning Wall, and just over the edge of the old parking area for Tollhouse Rock. Before the access road was closed, this was the parking area for climbers, hang glider pilots, and wild partiers, who frequently hurled random objects down the cliff below. Three boulder problems are found on this formation, and are usually toproped because of the exposure - if you fall off the more difficult problems you will likely hit and roll off down the steepening slab to join the debris at the base of the 300 foot wall. |
| Approach: | From Tollhouse Grade drive about a mile down the dirt road and find a safe turnout before the locked gate. Just before the gate a trail cuts right, up the hillside, under the powerlines and joins the old access road at a switchback. Continue another quarter mile up this road to a flat slab area (the site of many wild parties). Walk toward the edge of the cliff and look for a Cap Rock type formation where the climbs are found. Alternately, you can hike up the 4WD road from the Tollhouse Grade up past the Cap Rock trail and down to the old parking area. |
