About South West Face:

Two great climbs go up the SW face of Half Dome. The SW face, first done by John Salathe and Anton Nelson, is now a 5.10 free climb. The other is a Bridwell Masterpiece, the Snake Dike. At 5.7, Snake Dike is the easiest way to get to the top without dealing with the cables and the crowds.
Approach: Take the John Muir trail for about 4 miles or so (or shorter but steeper variation on the beautiful waterfall lined Mist Trail) the take the obvious climbers trail for another 2 miles up steep terrain to the base of route, pay close attention to the carrins. Approach gains about 3500 ft. very strenuous!
