About Flatirons - Fifth Flatiron:

The Fifth Flatiron is one of the 5 big flatirons on Green Mountain above Boulder. The Fifth is a longer hike than the others, which makes for few climbers on its fantastic moderate routes. As with most flatirons routes, be prepared for runouts on this formation. The routes are bertween 500 and 900 feet long.
Nearest town or city: Boulder
Directions: Park at Chatauqua Park and take your favorite trail to Bluebell Lodge. From there, hike up the steep Royal Arches trail over Sentinel Pass. Look for a spring(Tangen Spring) on the left after you start hiking uphill again. Hike along the left side of the rock formation past the spring to reach the lowpoint of the Flatiron.

The descent is unpleasant. Make 1 75 foot rappel to the ground from an eyebolt on the summit. Head uphill(left as you are facing away form the flatiron) until it is feasible to go downhill. There is a climber's trail, but this is steep, brushy, and loose in places. The climber's trail deposits you on the Royal Arch trail just before the Arch.
