The Canal Zone
About The Canal Zone:
A new crag right near the mouth or Clear Creek Canyon. Developed by Kirk Miller in 2008, this crag contains a great collection of moderate sport climbs, and one trad climb. The crag faces N-NW and is shaded until about 2pm in the summer. |
Approach: | There are a number of possible approaches, but easiest approach involves parking at the first, large turnout on the left as you start up the canyon. Your goal is the bridge across the creek directly below the parking area. Reach this by either scrambling directly down one of three loose, steep gullies below the parking area, or by walking east along the closed road (which will loop around to the bridge). Cross the bridge and walk west along the creek until a steep trail switchbacks uphill to the old, abandoned canal. Follow the canal west to the base of the crag. |
