Description:

AI2. This is a very good couloir climb in late spring into early summer. When it melts out it becomes a class 3 scramble to the summit. Head north from the upper South Colony Lake to the upper cirque, follow the prominent coulior just to the right of the North Pillar, when “in” this lower angle couloir can be climbed unroped by competent parties or easily simul-climbed. From the top of this couloir you will be deposited at the southwest side of the Bear's playground, a large alpine meadow between Kit Carson Peak and Crestone Peak. From Bear's playground traverse around the north side of Crestone Peak until you reach an obvious snow filled couloir, this is the main objective. When you reach the saddle at the top of the couloir, scramble to the right to the summit. This route is generally considered to be AI2, it is marked WI2 in the database because there is currently no Alpine Ice ratings available to assign to the routes.
